More first flights for African C-27Js

LEONARDO'S AIRCRAFT Division has completed the maiden flight of an initial C-27J for the Kenya Air Force. The 1 hr 35min sortie from the manufacturer's plant in Turin-Caselle, Italy took place on December 3. Serial 222 is the first of three examples acquired by Kenya between November 2017 and last February together with a number of AW139 helicopters - reportedly four. The C-27Js are in a new baseline configuration that includes a revised avionics suite with new cockpit displays, weather radar, radio navigation, intercom system, cockpit and cargo panels and lighting system with LED technology, plus enhanced satellite and radio communication capabilities. The avionics comply with next-generation air traffic control requirements and provide Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) 7.1 capability. A new flight management system adds required navigation performances (RNP) and localiser performance with vertical guidance (LPV) approach capabilities.
