Oman retires Puma/Super Puma

THE ROYAL Air Force of Oman (RAFO) is finally retiring the Puma/Super Puma after 36 years of service. The two AS332C Super Pumas (serials 615 and 616) and single AS332L1 (serial 617) were originally delivered to the Oman Royal Flight in 1982 and 1990, respectively. All three were transferred to the RAFO in February 2005. Although the exact date is unknown, they were recently withdrawn from use by 14 Squadron at RAFO Base AI Musanaa. One of them, 615, has been allocated for ground instructional use at the Military Technical College in Muscat. The fate of the other two has not been determined. In addition to the Super Pumas, the RAFO's 14 Squadron also operated two SA330J Pumas, serials 610 and 611. These were due to be phased out of service in December. In future the role of the SA330s and AS332s will be fulfilled by the RAFO's NH90 TTHs.
