Peter stekel, author of Final Flight: The Mystery of a WWII Plane Crash and the Frozen Airmen of the High Sierra, will discuss efforts to recover aircraft long lost in the wilds, waterways, and glaciers. Expeditions have brought back some aircraft that were later restored to display status and, occasionally, to airworthiness. Pictured is Swamp Ghost, a B-17E that made a forced landing in Papua New Guinea in 1942. The crew of nine, all of whom survived, destroyed the top-secret Norden bombsight before abandoning the aircraft, which was salvaged in 2006 and is now displayed in "as is" condition at Planes of Fame.
