BRAZIL'S MINISTERIO da Defesa (Ministry of Defence) has given approval for the purchase of two multi-role tanker transport (MRTT) aircraft to supplement the Forga Aerea Brasileira (FAB; Brazilian Air Force) fleet.Authorisation for rapid acquisition of the two strategic transport and refuelling aircraft under the KC-X3 project was given by the Minister of State for Defence in a decision order issued on May 10. The order specifies that the aircraft should be purchased secondhand to reduce costs, but while still fully meeting all FAB requirements. Brazil is expediting the programme after the FAB's lack of large transport aircraft was highlighted during the nation's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
