Chuck Wahl's rare "Birdcage" Vought F4U-1 Corsair restoration is making great progress as the forward sections of the aircraft come together. Work began six years ago in 2015, when the project arrived at Wahi's Vulture's Row Aviation in Cameron Park, California. In preparation for mounting the landing gear later this year, the flap spars were re-installed and the center section wing had its upper and lower skins attached. According to Wahl, more than 2000 spot welds were required to attach the cockpit section skins to the ribs. As of mid-January 2021, the majority of the cockpit furnishings have been installed and the birdcage canopy has been completed. When flying, Wahl's F4U-1 will be the world's only flying Birdcage Corsair.
