Cracks appear in Mahamane Ousmane and Hama Amadou's opposition alliance

The former Nigerien prime minister Hama Amadou andthe ex-president and runner-up in the presidentialelection of December 2020, Mahamane Ousmane, havenot spoken to each other since the swearing inof Mohamed Bazoum on 2 April. They have fallen outover Ousmane's strategy for contesting the result of theelection, which he claims he won and in which hereceived the backing of the party founded by Amadou,Moden FaLumana. Having exhausted all the nationalchannels for overturning the official result, Ousmane hastaken his case to the court of justice of the EconomicCommunity of West African States (ECOWAS). ButAmadou's supporters believe that time is playing in Bazoum's favour and would have preferred to seeOusmane go down the route of popular protests.
