Oil minister Itoua uses OPEC to help him raise Saudi and UAE funds

Oil minister Bruno Itoua and SNPC chief Raoul Ominga want OPEC secretary general Mohammed Barkindo to intervene on their country's behalf to obtain funds. Société Nationale des Pétroles du Congo's (SNPC) hundreds of millions of dollars of debt, racked up in prefinancing contracts with traders like Trafigura and Glencore, are forcing the Congolese government to find new ways to replenish state coffers. The motivation for inviting Mohammed Barkindo, the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries' (OPEC) secretary general, to Brazzaville and Pointe Noire late last month was largely financial. Oil minister Bruno Jean- Richard Itoua and SNPC managing director Raoul Ominga met several times with their guest to ask him to plead their case with members of OPEC, of which Congo has been a member since 2018.
