Macau's Chow dynasty plans to reduce spending on its giant Cape Verde casino project

Following Macau Legend's publication of first half losses totalling €62.1m, cochairman and executive director David Chow has been forced to radically rethink the group's huge casino-hotel complex on the thus far undeveloped island of Santa Maria, near the Cape Verdean capital, Praia (Africa Intelligence, 01/07/20). His group, which owns several casinos in Macao and also has offices in Hong-Kong, has been hard hit by the measures taken against the Covid pandemic. The group therefore wants to reduce the cost of its project in Cape Verde, according to the first half report it published on 27 August. The project's construction plans are currently being reviewed, with a view to building the complex "in a more effective and economic way". Macau Legend had already acknowledged in June that the project was running late.
