By the time this 'Antenna' column is published in AEROSPACE at the beginning of March, the United Kingdom will be, unless Article 51 has been pushed back or revoked, less than 29 days from leaving the European Union. At the time of writing, Parliament had failed to back the agreed deal which Prime Minister Theresa May had put before the House of Commons and the risk of the UK leaving without an agreed deal with Brussels remained. While not alone among industries that are at risk of being seriously impacted by the prospect of Britain leaving the EU without an agreement, the aerospace industry has been one of the most vociferous in expressing concern. Whether you consider the fears expressed by senior industry leaders together with threats of moving production abroad to be a sensible response is a matter best left to you the reader but, in the case of Airbus, I venture to suggest that in respect of the UK leaving without a deal Tom Enders' words that "Brexit may lead to a slow motion crash for Britain's aerospace industry" should not be taken lightly.
