Italy's Mondo Spa has patented a novel method for producing yarns suitable for use in artificial grass. In European Patent EP I 889 954, the company from Gallo reveals how it extrudes a plastic sheet comprising a number of segments of predetermined cross-section, all connected by thin bridges. The sheet can then be drawn and subsequent processing, such as winding the sheet onto rolls, causes the segments to split from one another to leave the individual yarns that are characterized by their high degree of uniformity.
