Silk-like fibres from Canadian milkweed

A Canadian project aims to develop cheap silk-like fibres from milkweed, a crop suitable for growth in the province of Quebec. Protec-Style of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, Canada, a developer of permanently anti-microbial fabrics for medical clothing, is leading the project, called Soie Quebec. With financial support from the Quebec Ministry of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade (MDEIE).the project's aims are to generate exports of products based on milkweed and to promote the development of agriculture where land is currently qualified as marginal.
