Load-Deflection Response of Concrete Beams Reinforced with FRP Bars

This paper presents load-deflection relationships of 28 Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) reinforced simply supported beams under third-point loading. The predictions of some approaches are compared with the experimental results by testing 28 concrete beams reinforced with Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP), Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) and Hybrid Fiber Reinforced Polymer (HFRP) bars. To improve the bond between FRP bars and concrete, the surface of the bar were either coated with sand or helically wound with fiber strands. Load-deflection response of FRP reinforced beams shows that the bond performance of sand coated FRP bars is superior to those treated by winding fiber strands around the FRP bars. The suggested model for predicting mid-span deflection, accurately estimated the deflection under third-point loading. Test results reveal that there is excellent agreement between the theoretical and experimental results.
