In the introduction, they do a magnificent job of asking the question "Why do this?" but also detail the historical research and literature related to critical approaches to technology itself (not just information technology). First of all, the authors discuss the first edition, the content, various reactions to the content from the profession and others, and why a book on "new" critical approaches is appropriate.
