Collecting, preserving, and providing access to institutional history has been the traditional mission of academic archives. Today's academic archives, however, can also include records management programs, special collections departments, and other archival repositories. Aaron Purcell thoroughly examines the complexity of contemporary academic archives in this book. An active scholar in the fields of archives and history, Purcell is well qualified to write this book. He is a professor and director of special collections at Virginia Tech. He has a PhD degree in history from the University of Tennessee and also worked at the National Archives and Records Administration.
