摘要

Within the context of a numerical study of concrete bridge deck deteri- oration, simulation of steel corrosion and concrete cracking are inves- tigated in this paper. Corrosion is shown to be easily modeled through the diffusion model generally available in most commercial finite element codes, whereas cracking is handled by a special nonlin- ear fracture mechanics program. When combined with the chloride diffusion analyses presented in a companion paper, it is shown that a rigorous mechanics-based model can be developed to quantify spal- ling in bridge decks.
