BRUSSELS U-TURNS ON BOARD QUOTAS

European politicians have done a u-turn on plans to require listed companies to hire female executives at board level, in an effort to boost the numbers in senior management, or face sanctions if they fail to do so. The revised legislation still recommends a 40% quota but companies will now not face sanctions if they do not comply with the rules. The initial suggestion, pushed by EU justice commissioner Viviane Reding, have also been revised to give member states room to introduce fairer methods of encouraging more female recruitment at board level.
