The clinical course of the patient. Three courses of intravenous methylprednisolone pulse therapy followed by daily oral prednisolone were administered, which resulted in a transient decrease in serum creatinine level. Eight sessions of plasma exchange also resulted in a transient effect on improvement of renal function, but the patient had persistent nephrotic-range proteinuria and progressed to end-stage renal disease.
