摘要

A 10% random sample of 3543 cases litigated in the United States’ civil and criminalcourts were analysed using logistic regression to develop a model that can predict caseoutcomes for litigants with schizophrenia. Most predictors are related to casecharacteristics and not to the litigants’ antecedents, behaviours or medication issues.Only the psychologist as an expert witness was found to be related to case outcome, butthe concern is expressed that inadequate weight is given to expert testimony. Othersignificant findings include being represented by counsel, atypical medication andmalingering.
