EXPLORING PERSONALITY CHARACTERISTICS THROUGH NARRATIVE ANALYSIS

Through narrative analysis this study explores the stories told by Dor Vador participants and explores themes in their individual stories, themes across the stories told by all participants, and explores the nature of the stories participants chose to share. This qualitative analysis of the transcripts of each interview identifies common themes and unique characteristics across individuals. The stories exemplify the Life Course Approach, and the unique impact of global events on this cohort; period effects based on early and mid-life events, and explores perceptions of age at differt time points. Two coders reviewed the transcipts for themes of religiosity, self-regulation, self-exploration, generativity, and Interdepence/Indepence. The data allow us to infer personality charcteristics that reveal how their Jewish identity catalyzed their sense of self from an early age, with variations across individuals in how they perceived the world and their role in society that correlate to the aforementioned themes.
