Behaviour disorders can occur as a result of the patient's inability to weather various crises. This article identifies various stages in a patient's life, which, if badly managed, could lead to emotional disturbance. If the family physician is aware of the emotional dangers attending certain circumstances, he may do a lot to promote good “mental hygiene”, both by the cautious use of drugs and by constant reassurance of the patient and his family.
