BackgroundTangier disease (TD) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder, resulting from mutations in the ATP binding cassette transporter (ABCA1) gene. The deficiency of ABCA1 protein impairs high density lipoprotein (HDL) synthesis and cholesterol esters trafficking.
