Nerve lesion surface is commonly treated by local acupoints or the acupoints along the affected meridians, referring to symptomatic treatment, and the treatment of Biao. Selection of acupoints based on the differentiation of syndromes is in the category of holistic treatment and the treatment of Ben. The local selected acupoints on nerve lesion surface may work on the affected area directly and play the important significance in the recovery of nerve function. But, facial paralysis is chiefly manifested as the holistic disorder of the body and its pathological mechanism is quite complicated, with much more syndromes. Hence, in order to achieve satisfactory therapeutic effects, it is necessary to distinguish the etiology, classify the syndromes, make the differentiation of syndromes and apply systematic treatment. It is the main approach to select the acupoints based on the differentiation and it is viewed that the organic combination is the key between the selection of acupoints based on nerve lesion surface and that based on differentiation of syndromes so that the therapeutic effect may be enhanced.
