The article reviews the evolution of China’s legislation for the conservation of Historic and Cultural Cities(HCCs),summarizes China’s existing laws and regulations of both national and local levels on the conservation of historic and cultural cities,discusses the disadvantages of China’s current legal system for the conservation planning and offers some suggestions on how to satisfy the requirements of integrated conservation the historical environment of historic and cultural cities,as well as completing the legal system for urban and rural planning.
