%Since the libidinal and destructive urges exist simultaneously, and the history of civilization is also the history of barbarity, love and violence has been a constant phenomenon on the stage of literature. In Afro-American literature, love and violence are inseparable twosome.Alice Walker’s The Third Life of Grange Copeland presents the perpetrator’s neurotic characters in love which was induced by the patriarchal ethics of violent domination.Toni Morrison's Beloved ex-pounds the victims’self-denial of love after their traumatic experiences. As a remedy, bell hooks offers an ethics of love which both inherits and transcends the black literary tradition.
