The traditional Chinese family pension is facing a series of challenges in the process of modernization and industrialization. The weakening of the function of family pension has become an indisputable fact. Therefore, it is believed that the traditional Chinese family pension will be replaced hy the counterpart in the western society. Based on the reference of the relevant development concerning the research into the history on family and society of Chinese and West, this thesis illustrates an objective analysis of the historical development and process of the family pension on the part of both sides, and furthermore it makes a comparison between their respective cultures as regard to family pension, thereby getting a clear-cut knowledge of the history and others relevant of the Chinese and western old age support pattern.%中国传统的家庭养老在现代化和工业化进程中面临一系列的挑战和冲击，家庭养老功能弱化已经是一个不争的事实。据此，有人认为，中国传统家庭养老模式将被西方的社会养老模式替代。对中西方家庭养老的历史演变发展过程进行比较研究，以期对中西方家庭养老模式的历史脉络有比较明晰的认识。
