At its peak, the party dominated the politics of some areas of the United States, becoming a political force that cannot be ignored. They hold that their duty is to maintain the mainstream culture against being destroyed by those Catholic immigrants. To achieve the goal, they even resort to violence. The main causes for its rise are found to be responding to the foreign Catholic immigrants and maintaining the Protestant-dominated social mainstream values.
