清末民初，为救国于水火，张謇在家乡经营地方自治，开始了其强国理想的实践。他兴办实业，并依托实业的成功，大力发展慈善公益事业，实现了从一个实业家到社会改良家的转型。张謇的慈善公益事业不是单纯的就慈善论慈善，就公益论公益，而是将其纳入改良社会的系统工程之中，赋予深远的政治内涵。在张謇看来，实业只能富国，慈善公益事业才是强国的根本。张謇关于强国梦的解读与实践，强有力地助推了南通的近代化进程，使南通成为闻名全国的“模范县”。此外，对于当今中国梦的实践也有着重大的参考价值，值得我们深思与借鉴。%In the late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China, Zhang Jian began to practice his ideals about a strong country by municipal governance in his hometown, so as to save then country out of troubles and misfortunes. Based on his understanding of a strong country, he established industries and invested a lot on charities out of his indus-trial success, which transformed him from an entrepreneur into a social reformer. His efforts in charities were far beyond charities themselves, and he embedded them into social reform and entrusted profound political connotations to them. In his views, industries could bring fortunes to the nation, while charities were the roots of a strong country. Zhang Jian ’s interpretation and practice of a strong nation have propelled the modernization of Nantong and made then Nantong a renowned “model city”. In addition, his interpretation and practice have great significance to the practice of China Dream.
