This journal is a cover-to-cover English translation of the ACTA METALLURGICASINICA,originally published in Chinese.ACTA METALLURGICA SINICA is edited by an Editorial Board in the Institute ofMetal Research,Academia Sinica,Shenyang,China.The publication was started in 1956,interrupted twice and finally resumed in 1974,Prof.Dr.Li Xun (H.Lee 1913-1983),a cel-ebrated scientist,was the founder and late first editor-in-chief.ACTA METALLURGICA SINICA (English Edition),consisting of Series “A”and“B”which are virtually two distinct journals,has first issued since July and August 1988respectively.Series“A”(ISSN1000-9442) deals with physical metallurgy and materialsscience.Series“B”(ISSN1000-9450) reflects process metallurgy and miscellaneous,cov-ering the fields of mining and ore dressing,production metallurgy,oxidation and corro-
