The traditional Japanese view of life and death has changed slightly in modern society. New values spring up in the collision between the traditional and the modern. Whereas some elements in folk custom, such as death omen, funeral etiquette, cemetery system evolution, feed and soul, still form the core system of the Japanese view of life and death. Souseki Natsume’s novel I Am a Cat is world renowned. Information on this subject can be found through observation of the novel which enables us to have a better understanding of the ideological source of the traditional Japanese view of life and death.% 日本人传统的生死观在近代社会出现了微变,传统与现实发生碰撞,形成一些新的价值取向。但民俗中的死亡预兆、丧葬礼仪、墓制沿革、供养与灵魂等要素仍然构成日本人生死观的核心体系。夏目漱石的小说《我是猫》享誉世界,本论文以《我是猫》中的死亡描写为事例,通过剖析作品中涉及死亡的描写,从中挖掘出这一时期的许多相关信息,系统地论证了近代日本人的生死观及其思想源泉。
