Wall Map Aided Indoor Geolocation Based on Signal Strength

摘要

We have investigated a wall map aided technique of real time indoor geolocation based on signal strength modeling. Instead of measuring such message as TOA, TDOA or DOA, the technique makes use of the level of signal power sensed by an MS regarding the signals transmitted by AP. Because of the rather complex form of attenuation and fading of indoor radio signals, the accurate geolocation requires that we set up a database, called wall map, about the number of walls intervening between each room and AP before the real time indoor geolocation begins. The technique consists of room determination step (step one) and location step (step two). A simple signal propagation model and linear regression are utilized in the first step for rough location of the MS, while an empirical signal propagation model and multiple regression are used in the second step for more accurate location. To demonstrate the procedure of the proposed scheme and to assess the accuracy of this approach, a simulation experiment is conducted by assuming an indoor scene.
