Southern Grid Corporation determined a scheme of first UHV project

In April 2005, the Southern Power Grid Co., Ltd. entrusted China Power Engineering Consulting Group Corporation with an evaluation of a feasibility study report (part of system transmission scheme) on the first UHV program-Yun-Guang DC transmission project. Its voltage class and transmission capacity are to be +_ 800 kV and 5000 MW respectively. Its starting point will be in the northwest of Kunming and converter substation will be in Zengdong District of Guangzhou. Evaluation experts held that, 1) Yunnan is rich in energy resources available to build energy bases and Guangdong has a large market space to receive electricity from Yunnan; 2) the + 800-kV DC transmission technique is economically feasible;
