摘要

In ancient times, the reach of Pearl River across Guangzhou downtown area was as wide as about 2 kilometers. There were three reef islands in the river, named Haizhu (Sea Pearl) Rock, Haiyin Rock and Fuqiu Rock. Haizhu Rock, also called Haizhu Island, was a huge reef island in the river. In 1931, in the enlargement of the new bank during Yan Jiang Road construction, Sea Pearl Rock was buried underground. The name of Pearl River originated from "Haizhu (Sea Pearl) Rock".
