正On the Changbai Mountain Nature Reserve (established in 1960) in Northeast China there lies some pure land unspoiled by human activity. This is an invaluable heritage left by our ancestors. Yet in our generation human interference is threatening its purity. When I climbed up the mountain in 1975 for the first time, I was fascinated by the profusion of flowers of all colours, luxuriant forests and large tracts of green meadows. From that moment on, these pictures were vividly engraved in my memory, and they often appear in my dreams. Now, almost twenty years have passed, in which mass tourism has been developing at a fast pace. Is my dream mountain still as charming as it was before? What
