To assist the design of Accelerator Driven System (ADS), the general neutronics and radiological safety aspects of tungsten spallation target were studied with FLUKA and MCNPX code[1]. The neutron yield, neutron flux and shielding for the irradiated target were analyzed.For CIADS (China Initiative Accelerator Driven), the spallation target is a tungsten granular flow target. The granular filling rate in the target tube that is changing with granules flowing is an important factor to estimate the neutron yields. Based on mathematical lattice filling models, the granular filling rate is in the range from 0.52 to0.70.
