The state of context modeling today: Could a standard context model improve context-aware application development?

Creating and adopting a standard way to model context would ease the development of context-aware applications, enable the interchange of contextual data between applications, and have a significant impact on our ability to realize the benefits of ubiquitous computing in society. In order to realize this vision, systems designers will need to share common mechanisms for describing and sharing context. This study, through literature reviews, surveys, and interactive interviews, explores the state of context modeling today in order to identify trends toward standardization or barriers that need to be overcome before standards can emerge.
