Six Sigma glass cutting optimization project.

In the glass-cutting profession supporting the Computer Display Industry, three types of processing needs apply to make a finished glass product from a coated glass substrate in an effective and efficient manner First, variability reduction methods such as Six Sigma apply to design value-added processes capable of producing economically high quality finished glass products. Second, the processing methods must be for high volume and low cost production to justify having glass cutting in-house rather than outsourcing it. Third, simple and ingenious methods apply for protecting the coated glass surface from damage during glass cutting. This project undertakes the challenge of upgrading a slow and inefficient manual glass-cutting operation in ABC Company, a subsidiary of XYZ Corporation, into a high quality, high volume, and low cost automated glass-cutting cell. This results in significant return on investment.
