Personalities in the Cockpit: Do Significant Differences Exist Between Marine Pilots Flying Different Types of Aircraft?

This study looks at personality characteristics amongst U.S. Marine aviators based on the different aircraft and missions they perform. Specifically, analyzing Marine Aviators' personality characteristics using the NEO--PI--3. Research in the area of Marine Aviators is limited; therefore, the aim was to add to the research and literature of Military Aviators as a whole. In addition to contributing to the research, this study aims to aid clinicians in better understanding the personalities of Marine Aviators that tend to gravitate towards particular aircraft. The results suggest that, despite homogeneity among Marine Aviators as a whole, there are differences within their personalities that may not only better suited particular Aviators for particular airframes and the missions they perform, but also help them be successful within their specific communities.
