摘要

In the flavor and fragrance industry there is a need for quantification of volatile organic compounds in complex matrices. This need can arise from the presence of pesticides, compliance issues or offnotes. Offnotes can often be caused by oxidation of flavors and fragrances. Thus, a SPME-GC-MS/MS method was developed to quantify limonene oxidation products within several encapsulated technologies. Various MS modes were evaluated (both EI and CI) and EI gave the best selectivity in the matrix. Several SPME fibers with various appropriate coatings were tested and the 85 microm polyacrylate fiber provided the best selectivity and sensitivity. Another aspect of this work was evaluating a XCHANGERTM PAL-xt prototype developed by the Autosampler Guys which allows the upgrade of an existing PAL system to use and exchange up to 3 syringes during operation. Finally, using the optimized method an aged encapsulation was evaluated to show the change in oxidation.
