Virginia and other states have developed teacher evaluation systems that include student growth data as a substantial portion of the teacher evaluation. The purpose of the study was to determine Career and Technical Education teachers' perceptions on the use of student growth data in teacher evaluation as aligned with the Joint Committee on Standards for Educational Evaluation (JCSEE, 2009) Personnel Evaluation Standards. The evaluation incorporated a web-based survey and semi-structured interviews to collect, analyze, and present information. Findings revealed teachers believed that the use of student growth data in teacher evaluation was useful for identifying student and teacher strengths and weaknesses. However, teachers did not believe in the accuracy of student growth data used to their evaluations. Doubts centered on issues surrounding assessment validity and student contextual factors. Even with these doubts, teachers agreed that student growth data should be a component of teacher evaluation. Findings provided educational leaders, teachers, and other stakeholders with evidence-based judgments about the effectiveness of the teacher evaluation program, specifically as related to Career and Technical Education.
