Support management for Canadian Forces defence equipment programs: Toward developing design criteria for a logistics support monitoring system.

This thesis deals with the general concepts underlying Integrated Logistics Support (ILS), an approach to support management recently adopted by the Canadian Forces to ensure that there is an integrated effort for the consideration of logistics elements in the support of weapon systems or other defence equipment throughout their life cycle.;Before an LSM system can be developed, however, certain broad design considerations must be taken into account. These include management involvement, characteristics of the input data, output requirements of the users and selecting appropriate forecasting methods.;In order to demonstrate much of the conceptual framework of LSM, a preliminary representative computer-based prototype is presented.;The LSM system will be useful to project managers, Weapon System Managers, Life Cycle Materiel Managers and other middle and senior management personnel of the Department of National Defence. (Abstract shortened by UMI.).;Logistics Support Monitoring (LSM) is envisaged as a system that would evaluate the adequacy of the logistics support provided (during the in-service phase) compared to baselines such as management goals, norms, other previous usage data and/or the LSAR prediction.
