A citation analysis of master's and education specialist theses and research papers by graduates of the Library Science and Information Services Department at Central Missouri State University.

This study provided an analysis of citations in 91 theses and research papers written by graduate students in the Department of Library Science and Information Services at Central Missouri State University from 1978 through 1994, inclusive. The analysis involved the categorization by formats, frequency, and age of materials cited. The type of materials cited most frequently was periodicals; the second most cited resources were books. The range of age span between oldest and newest dates for most of the types of materials cited was diverse. Periodical citations and book citations spanned more than 100 years. A small core of journals provided the great majority of citations to periodicals. Over 75% of the periodical citations could have been supplied by 49% of the 258 periodical titles; 19 titles accounted for over 50% of the total references to periodicals.
