The purpose of this dissertation is to define the structural geometry of the oil fields within the foreland, frontal to the Zagros Fold and Thrust Be to depict any regional variation in structural style; and to calculate the magnitude of crustal shortening and depth-to-detachment in the deformed foreland of the Zagros Thrust Belt. Also, to determine how the regional structural balance is accommodated.; Zagros anticlines are truely concentric folds which can be produced between two efficient detachment horizons. In southwest Iran, the upper detachment is provided by the Miocene Gachsaran evaporites and the lower detachment is therefore presumed to be the Infra-Cambrian salt, or a higher formation in the case of narrow anticlines. The calculated values of the interpreted depth-to-detachment (basal), based on material balance relationships, demonstrate that the lower detachment is in fact the Infra-Cambrian salt in many cases.; A reasonable value for crustal shortening for the Zagros Foreland (30-32.5 miles and 12-13% strain) has been determined. Furthermore, it could also be considered that the foreland has been deformed in a regionally non-uniform and multi-directional stress field.; Many petroleum geology and engineering parameters were studied for the Oligo-Miocene Asmari Limestone in the different reservoirs and oil fields. A total original oil-in-place value (207 billion stock-tank-barrels) have been calculated for the Asmari Limestone in the areas studied.
