The objective of this study was to examine some factors which might influence the effectiveness a training program designed to support the income generation activities of the members of the UPPKA project in Indonesia. The study was conducted in three different villages, namely Bitung Sari, Teluk Pinang, and Ciomas in Bogor regency-West Java. Those three villages were chosen in order to have one underdeveloped, one developing and one developed village in the study. The respondents were chosen form among those who had participated in the training program and those who had not participated.; The study results show that, in general, the training has had a significant effect in improving a self-confidence of the participants in developing their family business, as well as in supporting the cooperation and empowerment of the people in their community. The results also showed that the training program helped the participants to develop positive relationships among their family members. The study also found that the higher the level of education of the participants, the easier it was for them to fully understand how to make good use of the information in the training materials. The age group of 30-49 years was found to be the most productive age in terms of achieving the highest income.; Elapsed time after participating the training could also seem to influence income level of the participants. The longer the period after they joined the training, the less income they were likely to earn. It is, therefore, suggested that refresher and motivational programs for such former participants might be considered.; The results of the study suggested that the subjects of banking access should be presented to the participants more effectively. Also, there was some indication that better training management is needed. Some applied training methods, such as learning by reading assignments, case studies, informal discussion and project study, were implemented inadequately.
