A perception survey to determine the effectiveness of an Ergonomics Injury Management (EIM) Process.

The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC), Division of Safety and Hygiene (DSH) assisted two companies in implementing an ergonomics program called the Ergonomics Injury Management (EIM) Process. A perception survey was given to employees at both of the companies in the year 1995 (prior to implementation) and the year 1998 (following implementation of the EIM). The survey, administered to hourly, salary, and management employees, included questions on the employees' perceptions of ergonomics and safety within the organization. Comparing the results of the perception survey between 1995 and 1998, there was a statistically significant improvement in mean scores at both companies (p = 0.007, p = 0.018) using the Mann-Whitney U test. The improvement in scores indicates that the EIM Process was effective. There were also decreases in injuries and illnesses and workers' compensation costs in both companies, which further indicates that the EIM Process was effective.
