Reclassification of leisure by energy expenditure and activities of daily living: A secondary data analysis of the 1992 Statistics Canada General Social Survey on Time Use (Cycle 7).

摘要

A secondary data analysis of leisure time use was conducted on the 1992 Statistics Canada General Social Survey (Cycle 7) on Time Use. The active and passive leisure categories were originally classified within the 1992 survey according to the location where the activity took place (respondent location-RL). Whereas, this study reclassified active and passive leisure categories according to energy expenditure (EE) and also included activities of daily living. Energy expenditure was measured according to METs. This provided a different list of activities under the two headings of active and passive leisure.;Active and passive leisure is impeded by varying patterns of involvement throughout the life-cycle. Patterns of involvement associated with leisure leisure time use was analyzed within this study. Patterns of involvement within the secondary data sample were measured according to the following demographics; age, gender, marital status, region, number of respondents children at home, living arrangement, socioeconomic status, level of education, labor force status of household and health status.
