Fiction and film in Taiwan, 1960s to 1980s: Narratives, politics, and aesthetics (China).

摘要

This study compares eleven works of Taiwanese native-soil fiction published in the late 1960s and 1970s with their film adaptations in the 1980s. The purpose is to determine the relative effect of media and socio-cultural conditions on the dynamics of the transactions between fiction and film produced in two historical timeframes.; On an artistic level, this inquiry advances the understanding of the nature and aesthetics of two narrative media, fiction and film. On a political level, this research explores the interactions between the state's policy on literature and the arts and the rise of a nativist consciousness. On a sociological level, the revelations from the inquiry present a cultural profile of Taiwanese society from the 1960s to the 1980s.
