摘要

The continuous casting process of copper rod using the "Hazelett-Krupp" process takes place in an environment containing numerous hydrogen sources. Using continuous measurement of hydrogen content in the melt appears to be an interesting way of optimising the process and improving rod quality.; This project, sponsored by Alcatel, consisted of choosing an appropriate probe, installing it on the production line, validating the results and evaluating the effect of process variables. The study was completed in an industrial context where technical, financial and human stresses were important. The experimental installation was set up in the restricted area of the tundish where temperatures reached 1130°C to 1150°C. The said probe gave low hydrogen concentration values (0.1 to 0.4 weight ppm). The measuring probe, based on the electrochemical principle of a galvanic cell, were obtain from TYK Corporation (Japan). Measurements were accurate (+/-5%), sensitive and reproducible. Response time was good (20 min.) and results were validated to theory and literature. Nevertheless, the permanent use of the probe was limited by its brittleness, its bulk and its short electrode lifetime. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)
