Scope of study. This dissertation details research that focused on Job Satisfaction of employees within the Australian overseas aid and development NGO sector. The purpose of this study was firstly, to identify facet-specific and general levels of Job Satisfaction in the Sector, and secondly, to determine the influence of selected personal and organizational characteristics on General Job Satisfaction. A sample of 416 members of a population of 1,674 was selected. The Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire, Short Form (MSQ), together with demographic questions and two open-ended qualitative questions on Job Satisfaction, was chosen to measure satisfaction levels of 20 job facets and General Job Satisfaction.; Findings and conclusions. This study found that employees of the Australian overseas aid and development NGO sector were most satisfied with the social service, activity, moral values, variety, independence, ability utilization and creativity job facets. Job facets of relatively lesser satisfaction included compensation, company policies and practices , and advancement. A multiple regression analysis showed that only one variable, age group, was a significant source of variance in general satisfaction. Paid employees in the Australian overseas aid and development NGO sector experience a high degree of satisfaction with their jobs.
