The CONCAM global sky monitoring network: Its evolution and the creation of a performance model.

This thesis covers the concept and instrumentation development and related research work carried out on the creation and design of the CONCAM continuous sky camera. Presented are the technical specifications for all the CONCAMs that have become part of the CONCAM evolution process and a calibration or performance model for one of the models in this series of instruments. CONCAMs form a global sky-monitoring network that generates data, which is very easily accessible via a web page to anyone, for purposes of cloud monitoring or other scientific research. The basic aim with CONCAM is to be able to create and sustain a continuous record of the optical sky by passively monitoring half the sky—2π steradians.
