Developing a continuum of movement for active-passive superscripts in Rorschach scoring.

This study developed a continuum of active movement for 26 verbs from Exner's (1978) Table of Movement, which showed significant disagreement in inter-group ratings of active/passive movement. Statements and phrases were developed using each verb in a context that connoted the most active use of the verb. Scoring sheets were composed to allow each verb to be compared to all other verbs using a paired comparison method. Scoring sheets were given to three groups of subjects: (a) experienced Rorschach users, (b) novice Rorschach users, and (c) a lay group of people with no Rorschach training, but who had fluent English language abilities. Subjects were instructed to designate which statement/phrase was more active. The study produced three continuums of movement that were similar in arrangement. Results indicated no significant inter-group differences in the arrangement of words, but minor differences did exist between groups of words, indicating different levels of activity.
